YOGA: GOING DEEPER: When Yoga is recognised as unity then its simplicity and power become clear. When movement, posture, breathing and awareness are treated separately the intrinsic unity of yoga and being human is  elusive. When we no longer make artificial distinctions between them asana, pranayama and meditation constitute a  seamless  unity. This begins with movement leading to stillness in the postures and comes to fruition in the extended stillness of silent sitting. Together they provide us with a deep experience of the intrinsic unity of body, mind and spirit. This workshop will clarify and apply the fundamental principles of structural and functional integrity in yoga posture, pranayma and meditation practice. These principles provide the indispensable foundation for realising the deep and satisfying spiritual possibilities of being human.

THE BANDHAS CLARIFIED AND APPLIED.The bandhas are not concepts or esoteric sacraments. They are muscular actions that express  the inherent integrity of the body and its functioning. These muscular actions are most directly and emphatically activated from the breath. Yet they can aslo be indirectly activated structurally because the musculature of the trunk is binary: supporting both posture and breathing. When mulbanadha, jalandharabandha and uddiyana bandha are supported by hastabandha and padabandha structure, breathing, energy and awareness are unified: yoga.  This session will clarify the muscular activations that these five bandhas actually are, and their relationship to breathing and structural integrity

YOGA BREATHING: The breath is the link between body, mind and spirit (awareness). It is therefor at the heart of yoga practice, whether postures or meditation. However if the body is activated with integrity then the breath requires no direct intervention in order to function effectively in support of our practice. Then the natural rhythms of the breath clarify and reveal the intrinsic and deeply nourishing rhythms of awareness. This workshop will explore the subtleties of breathing in the light of Patanjali’s definition of pranayama in the Yoga Sutras. In  will clarify the utilisation of the whole body as the breathing mechanism in posture practice: and the the uilisation of the breath as the doorway to meditation and the key to the realisation of our true nature.
